“This home is located in Midway, Utah, tucked into the foothills and surrounded by incredible mountain ranges,” says designer Ali Henrie. “Homes are more spread out here, with much of the surrounding land still used for farming and agriculture.”
Ali’s clients—a busy family of six—have embraced that pastoral lifestyle, creating a mini farm of their own with chickens, cows, horses, and goats. “You name it,” says Ali. “It’s a setting that really captures the charm and character of Midway.”
Inside, the family’s priorities were equally rooted in how they live: functionality, plenty of room to gather, and an overarching sense of warmth and comfort. “From the moment they purchased the land, they knew they wanted to take advantage of the mountain views and make them a focal point throughout the home.”
Ali set out to create a refined yet comfortable take on ranch living—one that felt connected to the home’s architecture and its rural surroundings. Traditional English influences bring character and history to the interiors, while relaxed materials and furnishings keep the spaces approachable.
“When designing full houses, one of the biggest challenges we face is how to create a cohesive design throughout while making the whole house have character and feel like it’s been there a long time,” the designer reflects. “We really let the ranch architecture be the foundation and then layered in the English influence through the interiors.”
Warm woods, natural stone, and relaxed materials ground the rooms, while traditional millwork, patterned fabrics, vintage pieces, furniture-style cabinetry, and a soft, muddy palette lend a sense of age and character. “We were also really intentional about where we added detail and where we kept things simple,” Ali explains. “That balance helped it feel collected and like it has always been there.”
The result is a home that feels firmly rooted in its surroundings—comfortable enough for the realities of family and farm life yet layered enough to suggest it has been evolving for generations.
