Downtown Los Angeles is filled with rich history, and with it come incredibly cool places to live. Take this loft, which is set in the old Nabisco Building. “What I love about this area and this project is the contrast—it’s raw and gritty in the best way, with so much character and history, but there’s also this energy of renewal and possibility,” says interior designer Galit Ptalis. “You can feel that it’s on the verge of something, and I love designing spaces that tap into that tension between old and new, industrial and refined.”
Galit’s firm, Interior Envy, was tapped by new client—a chiropractic bodyworker—to reimagine the space for everyday life. “He has a deep appreciation for wellness, creativity, and connection,” Galit shares. “He wanted the loft to be truly multifunctional—a space where he can host friends, record his podcast, meditate, play music, and be surrounded by his extensive book collection. His top priority was creating a home that feels both calming and inspiring; where every corner supports how he lives, works, recharges, and learns.”
It was a full revamp, from space planning to finishes, lighting, and furniture. “We reimagined the entire layout to support his lifestyle and layered in materials, color, and custom elements to create a cohesive, multifunctional space that feels both grounded and elevated,” the designer explains. She describes the style as refined and industrial, but with global and vintage influences. “It’s layered, with earthy textures, metallic silver-toned cabinetry, and unexpected hits of rust, green, and warm woods that bring depth and warmth to the space.”
She admits that the biggest challenge was making a large, open industrial loft feel multifunctional without losing its soul. “The client had a wide range of needs—hosting, working, meditating, playing music, reading—so the space had to be flexible without feeling fragmented,” Galit recalls. “Creating distinct zones while preserving flow and cohesion required a lot of intention, especially in terms of lighting, material choices, and layout. Balancing raw industrial elements with warmth and personality was a design puzzle I really enjoyed solving.”
The project took about a year from start to finish, allowing for time to be thoughtful about every detail—from spatial planning to sourcing unique pieces and fine-tuning the materials. The result is a soulful, intentional home that’s as inspiring as it is livable.
