Lake Tahoe is renowned for its natural beauty, but the interiors of this stunning mountain home by Miche Victoria Interior Design could easily rival the great outdoors. Located in the exclusive Clear Creek Tahoe community, this newly constructed property is a perfect blend of luxury and relaxation. A three-year project that was well worth the wait, the design team shares more about the process and the stunning end result:

Tell us about this home. Where is it located? What do you love most about the area?
This home is nestled in the mountains of Lake Tahoe’s eastern side, situated within Clear Creek Tahoe—an upscale golf community between the South and North Shores. It offers a peaceful retreat from the busier parts of Tahoe, serving as a natural sanctuary with stunning mountain scenery and breathtaking views of the Carson City Valley. The serene environment, combined with the balance of privacy and access to outdoor activities, makes this location truly special.

Tell us about the clients. Had you worked with them before? What were their goals for the new construction home?
The homeowners have a large, close-knit family, including three married daughters, two grandchildren, and two beloved labradoodle companions. The husband is an avid outdoorsman, while the wife has a deep love for creating warm, inviting family spaces. Their vision was a home that embraced the charm and nostalgia of an old-fashioned mountain lodge but with a more transitional and curated approach.

This project was particularly meaningful for us, as we had the privilege of working with these clients on two previous homes. This was their third collaboration with us—a dream home built from the ground up on a beautiful property they had acquired. It was designed as their second home, a true escape from their fast-paced lives.

Architect Keith Kelly of Kelly & Stone Architects designed a stunning contemporary structure, and our role was to bring their vision to life through material selections, finishes, and interior detailing. The goal was to create a home that felt cozy and welcoming while maintaining a refined aesthetic. The end result is a Transitional Mountain Home infused with the warmth and character of an eclectic, old-fashioned lodge.

A few key must-haves included: spacious gathering areas for large family get-togethers, cozy, layered interiors to balance the home’s grand scale, natural materials such as stone and wood to evoke a timeless mountain retreat, functional spaces like a mudroom with ski lockers, a bunkroom for grandkids, and a well-appointed kitchen and bar for entertaining.

What was your scope of work?
Once the architectural plans were finalized, we took over the design direction for all interior and exterior finishes, ensuring the home’s aesthetic felt cohesive and intentional. This included selecting all finish materials (flooring, cabinetry, countertops, stonework, wood stains, etc.), choosing all lighting fixtures to complement the home’s scale and style, and designing special architectural elements, such as fireplaces, built-ins, and custom details that reinforced the home’s lodge-like character.

Were there any challenges in the process?
The home’s scale was a major design consideration. Every element, from fireplace mantels to ceiling beams and lighting fixtures, had to be carefully proportioned to fit the volume of the space while maintaining warmth and intimacy.

How long did the project take, and what did the client say when they saw the finished space?
From start to finish, the project spanned three years. Winter conditions in the mountains posed challenges, causing delays in the exterior construction. Despite the long process, the clients were beyond thrilled. Every custom element, carefully sourced material, and thoughtful detail made the home a truly special place for them. Seeing their excitement and appreciation for the final result made it all worth it.
