When Sami Bernstein Spalter—co-founder of FORM and member of Forbes 30 Under 30—relocated from Los Angeles to Austin, it was a bit of a homecoming. The entrepreneur has familial roots in nearby Houston, and, along with husband Andrew Spalter, found a great home close to the buzz of South Congress.

The couple reached out to Lisa Checo of OOAK Design Studio to design the space. “The goal of the home was to tie in typical farmhouse comfort with laidback California aesthetic,” Lisa explains. “We aimed for the design to embody a classical rustic-yet-modern look, mixed with meaningful accents that speak to the personalities that reside within the space.”

Lisa says Sami was a dream client, as she gave her free reign on the design. “She just had a few pieces she had found on Pinterest that she absolutely needed, so I made sure to secure those,” she recalls. “She was extremely open minded!”

Surprisingly, the guest room—often an afterthought—was the room she says was most fun to design. “We knew this wouldn’t be a space that would be so frequently occupied, it was safe to get a bit funky with these floral pleated upholstered pendants,” Lisa explains.

The result is a cozy, refined space that embodies a bit of Texan comfort too. Take a tour in the slideshow.
