A few years back, we featured the stylish Charleston design studio of Cortney Bishop. To this day, it stands as one of our all-time favorite workspaces. It’s no surprise, of course. Cortney Bishop Design has a unique style that’s hard to label — and we mean that as the highest compliment. She blends old with new, bringing a modern edge to more traditional rooms and a heavy dose of glamour to more industrial spaces. Cortney’s the latest designer in our #5MinutesWith series, and her answers have us more inspired than ever:

MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
I left my job after getting married and moved to Knoxville, TN with my new husband. I always wanted to pursue a more creative field; fashion and interior design were at the top of my list. At that time, my education and professional background were both in business… so those tools paired with my love for textiles and color unfolded into a pursuit of interior design professionally. It made a whole lot of sense at the time, and still does today!

I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
I have a cup of Yogi Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy Tea with honey and write my intentions for the day.

SUCCESS IS:
Watching my family and my team flourish. We are really doing life together. One of my biggest goals is to see them thrive, push forward in life, grow their families… and if Cortney Bishop Design can help support their personal dreams, in addition to their professional aspirations, then I know I’m on to something really great.

YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
My cell phone and sunglasses.

DREAM COLLABORATION:
It’s actually happening right now with Holland & Sherry… our first woven textiles collection called Harwood House!

THE ONLY CITY BETTER THAN LOS ANGELES:
Morocco!

WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I travel. Wheels up!

ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Have more babies.

IN 5 YEARS, FIND ME:
Stamping my passport. Always traveling for inspiration.

ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Invest in quality handmade products that have a story – I promise you will love them forever. And trust your intuition… it hasn’t failed me yet.
