This holiday, we’re paying a virtual visit to Devon Liedtke’s new Barcelona apartment. The interior designer and bonafide style expert recently designed a relaxed and playful holiday tablescape, designed for a festive lunch with friends. Opting for muted tones, simple details, the century-old Catalonian architecture of the space takes center stage. Below, Devon shares her top hosting tips for a successful soiree.
1. Bring the outdoors in with fresh greenery. You can find me at the scrap pile where they sell Christmas trees. As they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
2. Don’t overthink things. Pick one or two colors and use them everywhere from your tree to your gift wrapping.
3. Keep wrapped hostess gifts on hand. You never know when a neighbor may pop by with a holiday surprise!
4. Actually use your favorite china or tableware. I have bought pieces little by little and collected items at local second hand stores over the years. I try to use my items all year, but this is the time to brush off the dust and set holiday scenes with the china you are too afraid to break! And if it breaks, you can stress less next year with one less person.
