This remodel was what you’d call fast and furious. “My client had a plumbing leak that made it impossible to use the only two bathrooms with showers in the house,” Emily Ruff of Cohesively Curated recalls. The clients had purchased the Spanish-style home, located in Seattle’s Mt. Baker neighborhood, after writing a letter to the 90-year-old owner expressing their love for the property. It boasted covetable views of Lake Washington, but the house hadn’t been updated in over fifty years. As it goes, even landing your dream home can come with a few hiccups.
After the leak, Emily had her work cut out for her. “We designed the two bathrooms in three weeks and had to select all in-stock plumbing fixtures which is no easy feat these days,” she admits. “Typically, it takes at least six to eight weeks for design and another twelve weeks for all the items to come in so this was a very accelerated timeline.”
The clients wanted the bathrooms to feel bright and clean. “We incorporated a lot of beautiful marble and her favorite color, which is blue,” Emily says. “It was also super important that the spaces become more functional, without compromising on style.” Naturally, plumbing was the biggest challenge. “It was all very old and had to be completely pulled out and redone which added some time to the construction schedule. We ended up having to make the step into the shower higher than planned and lost the arched opening due to there not being enough space in the floor for the shower drain,” Emily explains.
Both bathrooms have a distinct personality but embody the traditional classic glamour the family hoped for. And both were ready for use in two quick months…a dream indeed. Take a tour in the slideshow!
