In Madison, Mississippi, this expansive 4.5-acre lot boasts both a resort-style pool and a private lake. “It’s a beautiful, spacious neighborhood,” says interior designer Claire Thompson. Her clients, a family of five relocating to the area, wanted their new home to reflect their elevated, modern sensibilities. “The home was very traditional and dated upon purchase, so we wanted to take the client’s love for a modern aesthetic and blend it with our signature warm, relaxed, and inviting style,” Claire explains.
Claire’s namesake design firm worked directly with the contractor to fully renovate the property, managing everything from architectural drawings for the expanded square footage to the redesign of bathrooms and closets. “We also handled all the furniture selections and procurement,” she shares.
You enter through a grand foyer, where a marble table anchors the staircase nook with a subtle hint of opulence. “To the right lies the dining room, featuring custom-built cabinetry with refined brass detailing,” Claire says. “The dining room flows seamlessly into the kitchen, where marble surfaces, a statement light fixture, and a La Cornue range each serve as standalone showpieces.”
Just beyond the kitchen, the inviting living room features a soft, modern aesthetic, with low-slung furniture, warm tones, and an approachable sense of comfort. From there, a hallway leads to the study—a serene retreat wrapped in white oak.
“At the start of the project, the super-modern direction kind of scared me,” Claire admits. “But once I got into it and added my twist of warm comfort, we had so much fun pushing the boundaries of our usual aesthetic.” The renovation took roughly 10 months to complete, and the finished home feels both grand and full of life. Naturally, the designer—and her clients—are thrilled.
