Interior designer Carly Lisnow operates Nowhaus Studio—a full-service design firm—under the ethos that “well-designed environments can have a significant impact on your productivity and emotions.” In the case of this Los Angeles home, she used that approach to improve both living and working conditions for one entrepreneurial couple.

“Millie & Jake Kahane are the proud homeowners,” Carly tells us. “As self-made entrepreneurs, they embarked on their journey by founding their own social media agency called Social Style House, back in 2018, all while still in their early 20s. Pioneers of their industry, they established a foothold in the industry with innovative ventures like website creation and social media management. Today, their agency has grown from two to seventeen employees.”

Style-wise, Carly had her work cut out for her. Millie hails from London, while Jake’s an LA native, and the pair wanted to blend traditional British aesthetics with the laid-back energy of California. “Our focus was centered on furniture/accessorizing, updating lighting fixtures, and converting the open-air cabana space into another room (aka their home office) by adding walls,” Carly explains. “We revamped the pool house into a home office space with two sets of french doors complemented by some sheer curtains.”

The result of the six-month project is comfortable and cozy, using on earthy colors and rich textures to bring their dream home to life. “The clients were an absolute pleasure to collaborate with,” Carly recalls. “Despite the challenging lead times during the peak of the pandemic, this surprisingly ended up being one of the quickest projects ever, and I’ve got to hand it to the clients. They were speedy decision-makers, which is ideal for any designer. They were also super eager to make things happen.”

Millie & Jake have big aspirations as they continue to nurture the growth of their social media agency. “Simultaneously, they envision to make countless cherished memories, continue to travel, and grow their family within the walls of their beautiful abode,” Carly says. “Their house also holds a special place as their first home, and with the addition of their newborn daughter, Georgie, it is destined to be their forever haven.”
