In our first issue, launched in spring of 2021, I said that “My number one goal is to be a constant source of inspiration and ideas. You can grab your copy, cozy up on the sofa, and pore over every page. Print is such a beautiful vehicle to unplug with and escape into—and I don’t know about you, but I think we all could benefit from less screen time.”
Six issues in, I have kept this goal in mind every step of the way. How can we inspire you to create your most beautiful life? Though interiors tend to be all about the aesthetics, we make sure to tell the story of the space as well. In this issue, we selected homes that are as unique as the people that live there, from a renowned chef’s home kitchen to a fine artist’s canyon estate, and even the L.A. house of our cover star, Cupcakes & Cashmere’s Emily Schuman. The state of the world threw a wrench or two into many of these home projects, and I was inspired to chat with designers and homeowners who took supply-chain issues and construction snafus in stride. It’s all about perspective, right?
On a personal note, I’ve just come off of a fantastic cross-country trip to celebrate Home With Rue, our first book. We kicked it off with a book signing on the rooftop of the Santa Monica Proper Hotel as part of Design Camp, a wonderful retreat for interior designers. We then teamed up with our friends at Crypton Fabrics to visit four gorgeous Arhaus stores in Atlanta, Nashville, Houston, and back in my hometown of Los Angeles. Sharing my love of design—and great storytelling—with both new and old friends alike was such a treat.
Now that I’m back home, I’m excited to follow my own advice and curl up on the sofa with this issue of the magazine. Cheers!
