LETTER FROM THE EDITOR:

More than a season, I think summer is a state of mind—and a positive one. With warmer weather and longer days, how could it not be? The moment it stays light later than 8 p.m., I am instantly inspired and ready to plan my next great vacation or tackle a DIY project in the garden. My stack of books starts to gather dust on the nightstand, only to be cracked open if a hammock or pool lounger is involved. I wanted to bring that feeling of summer excitement to the pages of this issue, and hope you agree we’ve achieved just that with a variety of homes that feel like sunshine!

On our pages, you’ll certainly find spaces that incorporate sunshine into the design brief literally, like a colorful San Francisco Victorian with the coolest yellow wallpaper (page 46).

But there are also homes that take a more metaphorical approach, like the minimalist marvel that relies on the natural beauty of the grounds outside, with blank white walls that allow for the shadows of leaves to dance from room to room (page 74). And there’s the first apartment of New York newlyweds, decorated with care and intention for a new chapter (page 66), plus a lively beach house for a family to reconnect over long, leisurely weekends (page 122).

I also took care to create a list of my favorite recent discoveries—from the very best lightweight summer pajamas and a super-flattering swimsuit to exciting new furniture collections and an adorable outdoor rechargeable lantern for all those summer BBQs that last long after sunset.

My hopes for this edition of the magazine are simple—that you are somewhere fabulous as you are reading this, be it at a chic hotel pool or in your own backyard, and that you find ways to bring the feeling of summer to your own homes during this glorious season and beyond.

Cheers!
