“The Levy house is a gorgeous Mediterranean style home one house in from the ocean that was originally built in 1907,” Sarah Brady of Salt Design Co. says of this gorgeous New Jersey summer house. “When the homeowner first purchased the home 4 years ago, she loved the proximity to the beach and the history of the home, but knew it was going to need to be renovated to accommodate their family of 7.” Sarah and her business partner, Jessica Chepauskas, spent over a year working with a team of architects to retrofit a historical home with seven bedrooms complete with en suite bathrooms, without changing the exterior footprint. Sarah recalls, “Due to Allenhurst, New Jersey’s strict historical regulations, windows and doors had to remain in their existing positions, creating quite the layout challenge.”
In terms of the aesthetic, the pair wanted to restore the home’s original character while layering in a few modern design updates. They worked with the homeowner on all aspects of the renovation, from selecting the stucco and roofing material down to the furnishings and styling accessories. “Overall, we wanted the home to feel casual and livable, reflecting the textures and tones of the nearby beach,” Sarah says. “The homeowner has great personal style and wanted to incorporate a unique, bohemian flair to the traditional Spanish style home.” They were able to utilize many local artisans throughout the project, including a custom dining table as well as artwork throughout the home.
As this is a summer residence, Sarah and Jessica kept a big focus on outdoor entertaining, while keeping the interior palette soft and bright, allowing your eye to venture outside to the gorgeous views. Needless to say, we’ll be spending this cold December dreaming of a weekend away at this gorgeous property!
