Overlooking the iconic Williamsburg Bridge and just steps from beloved Domino Park, this Brooklyn home is all about location and character. For its designer, Melissa Anderson of OAD Interiors, working here was a major pull. “I personally have called the neighborhood home for over 15 years,” she tells us. “Getting to work on projects in the area is close to the heart.”

Melissa’s client is a young tech professional. “He was wonderful to work with because he greatly valued design and appreciated how much details matter,” she explains. The project was a full-scale renovation aimed at celebrating the home’s original industrial character. “A few specific requests were getting lighting where it previously did not exist (no ceiling penetrations allowed), covering the oversized radiators in each room, and installing a whole-home smart control system,” she explains.

The building’s industrial past is more than just aesthetic, as it once housed the Gretsch Musical Instrument Company. OAD Interiors sought to honor that legacy through materials and forms that echo the craftsmanship of the instruments once made there. “Elements including long runs of millwork, fluted details, and soft glowing lighting create rhythm and repetition,” Melissa says. “Natural materials are employed throughout the home, and the history is revealed through exposing the original concrete floors and beams that accentuate the 14’ high ceilings. Overlooking the Williamsburg bridge and city skyline the view inspired the interior palette.”

This thoughtful, layered approach is signature to Melissa’s work at OAD. Her holistic design philosophy allows each project to tell a cohesive story—one that reflects both its surroundings and the values of its inhabitants. By paring back the unnecessary, she creates spaces that are functional, clean, and impactful, while refined details and bold gestures infuse personality and warmth.

This particular project took over a year, and the client was very happy with the result. “He appreciated the thought that went into creating special moments such as the custom powder room design,” she says.
