With over one million followers, interior design DIYer and YouTube star Drew Scott is a rising star in the decor industry. He launched Lone Fox in 2018, highlighting home hacks, organization ideas, and easy decor DIYs–all high style and all on a budget. As the channel’s popularity grew, he expanded his brand to include Lone Fox Home, an online store of curated home goods.

Inspired by his creativity, we wanted to know more! Take 5 minutes to get to know what makes this entrepreneur tick:

MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
I first started on YouTube as a menswear channel, which then evolved more into a DIY interior channel, however the two audiences never crossed over. I enjoyed creating DIY content so much more and decided I would start a second channel just as a hobby/passion project. Everyone told me not to and to stick with my menswear channel/content. However, once my DIY interior channel started growing, I realized I really wanted to focus my time and energy on creating and evolving the Lone Fox brand. I soon began to profit and find more inspiration from that channel vs. my menswear channel. I knew if I kept focusing my time and energy on Lone Fox I could really grow it. 1 million subscribers later….

I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
I truly can’t start my day until I have COFFEE! I am 100% obsessed. I have gone to all the bougie/vibey coffee spots in LA, but nothing compares to my basic iced coffee from Starbucks. It’s something that I go to bed looking forward to the next morning! My current and past apartments have all had a Starbucks within walking distance and I love to start my morning taking a walk there and planning out my day ahead.

SUCCESS IS:
Doing something you love. They say do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life, but I think if you love what you do, you’ll never want to stop working. My first ever love was scrapbooking back in 2010 (yes, I was only 15) but it really gave me my creative back bone! Today, I love exploring different creative outlets and tying them back to my love for DIY and interiors.

YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
My backpack! I keep my computer, camera, camera cards, microphone, iPad, wallet etc. in my backpack (I even have stray paint brushes and craft tools at the bottom…). Whenever I go to a friend’s house or I know I’ll be out somewhere, I always bring it with me. Basically, everything I could ever need is in it! I splurged a few years ago on a really fun glittery Saint Laurent backpack that makes me that much more excited to carry!

DREAM COLLABORATION:
A line at Target! I mean, how perfect does Lone Fox x Target sound? Target has been a place that I ALWAYS head to when I am in need of some new decor. The price points are incredible, and they are always up to date with current home decor trends.

THE ONLY CITY BETTER THAN LOS ANGELES:
If I didn’t live in Los Angeles I would probably live in New York. The city is so inspiring and I’ve always contemplated moving there, but nothing beats the Los Angeles weather. However, the thought of living in a cute cottage somewhere in Vermont also sounds like perfection.

WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED
I love to browse Pinterest or watch some of my favorite interior/DIY-ers on YouTube! Sometimes I’ll even go for a drive to clear my head and listen to music.

ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
5 years ago I didn’t even have my YouTube channel Lone Fox yet, which is so crazy to think! I was just starting my job at West Elm and feeling a little uninspired with my menswear YouTube channel. The advice I would give myself back then would be that it’s okay if your interests change, embrace it and go full steam ahead! If you are passionate about something or have a hobby, figure out how to make it into a profitable business.

IN 5 YEARS, FIND ME:
This is honestly such a hard question for me! I hope in 5 years to have some sort of product line or ongoing collaboration with a big retailer and to continue my weekly uploads on my YouTube channel. I also hope to purchase a home in Los Angeles that I can fully renovate and document the entire process on my channel.

ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Success doesn’t happen overnight! I am so thankful for my loyal followers and subscribers who have been with me on this journey and continue to support everything I do. Seeing them recreate my DIYs, comment on my videos and reading their DMs makes my day and gives me a reason to keep creating.
