Nestled in the highly coveted Rancho Santa Fe area of San Diego, this home is a testament to the power of creativity and personal style. “This is a family home, our client’s forever home, for her and her husband and their two children,” says interior designer Taylor Zack. “Part of what made this project so exciting was that our client herself is a creative; she actually works for YouTube. She completely understands the creative process, and on top of that has incredible style. She knew she wanted rich colors that complemented the Spanish-style architecture of the home, and for the home to have an overall focus on being family-and entertainer-friendly. They frequently host a lot of friends and family, which meant we needed ample seating in all spaces, and a design that felt inviting, warm, and true to who they are as a family, not stiff and untouchable.”
The property lies on over two acres of land, filled with trees and offering sprawling views. “The neighborhood, though highly renowned, is a hidden gem as it is tucked back from all of the hustle and bustle of San Diego,” Taylor explains. Her firm, Rêver Design Co., was hired to furnish all of the communal spaces. “The way we designed this home is quite eclectic, with a diverse range of decorative objects, and a playful mix of color and pattern, that contrast more contemporary-shaped furnishings like the curved sofa, sleek ottomans, with (of course) some vintage pieces thrown in there to aid in transcending a particular time period or style,” she explains. “The client is very fashion-forward and so we were able to really delve into the fashion world and used a lot of runway imagery as inspiration for items like the fringe, shearling, pops of color, and specifc forms that were used.”
She says the biggest challenge faced was the pure scale of each room. “Not only do they have incredibly high ceilings, but the rooms themselves are enormous and we had to be really dialed in on how we were scaling all of the furniture and dividing the spaces to make them feel really intentional, well-placed, and useful,” she shares.
