Bay Area interior designer Melanie Love found her recent clients through the best possible review—word of mouth. “The clients were introduced to our work at the home of their friends, a recently completed project,” the Love & Interiors founder explains. “Inspired by their friends’ newly remodeled and character-rich home, they reached out to us seeking a transformation of their own.”
Their house is in Oakland’s Upper Rockridge neighborhood, and though they’d recently completed a thoughtful remodel, they wanted something more. “Their space felt a bit too safe—neutral and restrained,” Melanie recalls. “They craved more color, texture, and personality.”
They curated new paint colors, decorative lighting, and furnishings for the entry, living room, dining room, guest bath, and primary bedroom and bath. In both the entry and guest bath, they introduced wallpaper to infuse the recently remodeled spaces with visual interest and whimsy. “It’s a blend of modern eclecticism, organic materials and vintage influences,” Melanie notes. “It’s layered and cozy with bits of whimsy and bold pattern that balance the subdued color scheme.”
Since they’d played it safe in the past, Melanie admits they needed time to digest and visualize how color and pattern would translate in their home. Luckily, the end result of the six-month project was all positive. “They’re really happy with the added personality and coziness of the finished space,” she says.
