“Our client’s home is located in a mature neighborhood in midtown Toronto,” says interior designer Brittaney Elgner of Olly & Em. “We love the lush tree canopy, classic architecture, proximity to local shops, and sense of community.” In addition to a great location, the home boasts five bedrooms over three levels.
The clients are a family of four—he is in finance, while she is in education—and they have two grown sons. “This project was unique, since the clients already lived in a classic Georgian on the property for many years before they decided to embark on this new build,” the designer says. “The clients have a love of entertaining, cooking, and gathering with family and friends. Wine, jazz, coffee, and color had to be incorporated throughout the home. The love of travel and collecting is very meaningful to our clients. We incorporated many pieces from their travels throughout the home.”
The house has five bedrooms over three levels. “The architect took great care in the thoughtfulness of the home’s design and architecture,” Brittaney says. Her firm was hired to do the interior design and furnishing for the project, and they worked in tandem with Limor and Teddington Homes on construction. She adds, “When we first started the design process, we wanted to ensure the home felt different in the best way; thoughtful yet playful, curated yet full of life, it needed to represent the people who call it home and how they live.”
Olly & Em joined the project in early 2021, and the build was completed in the spring of 2024. “Our clients were so trusting throughout the process, so knowing that we understood their vision and created a home with a feeling of lived-in ease was so important to them,” Brittaney shares. “Having them fully trust the process and seeing the final product come to life was so gratifying. When we revealed the project they felt a deep sense of home.”
The result is a home that feels comforting. “The home has a real sense of timelessness, but it’s also a bit contemporary, a mix of some old and some new,” the designer reflects. “It’s refined and grown-up, but also family-friendly and approachable.”
