This is not the first time that Devi and her husband Duane Brown, offensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks, worked with the design firm Laura U on their home. Back in 2013, Laura Umansky and her team transformed their Houston, Texas home into a space that was warm and inviting. This time, though, it was their Los Angeles home that needed a facelift.
It wasn’t that their home was in a bad state, in fact, the house had quality finishes and overall, was well designed; however, it needed someone to bring in cohesion throughout the home to make it an appropriate place for them. Having recently welcomed a baby boy, the couple didn’t want it to feel stuffy, or overly complicated. And certain areas in the home had to be repurposed: a room in the center of the ground floor living space, enclosed with a black steel window frame system was originally created as a wine and tasting room, something that wasn’t relevant to the Browns’ lifestyle. Instead, the team at Laura U transformed it into a meditation room which would allow it to be functional for the couple without doing too much work in its renovation.
As a Los Angeles-native, Devi wanted their home to have that California-cool style that resonated with her. The team at Laura U came up with a unique concept for the home which they describe as “California Moroccan Glam”. Within that design scheme, a warm neutral color palette was chosen to refer to the couples’ grounded worldview and the hints of Moroccan and Indian decor speak to their love of travel and spirituality. Overall the plush seating in every room, the casual style of the decor create a home that fits the couples’ love for hosting and relaxing with friends and family.
