For several years now, we’ve been fans of Shannon Wollack, Founder and Partner of Studio LIFE/STYLE‘s work. Along with Brittany Zwickl, she has designed numerous spaces that we’ve featured, including Lauren Conrad’s The Little Market and Facile Dermatology + Boutique. Her contemporary California design point of view is continually inspiring. But when it came to her own home, her closet was the last thing on her list.
“The closet wasn’t really a priority when we designed the house and as a designer, I didn’t have the energy to do it myself,” Shannon shared. “It was time for a sophisticated grown-up closet.” With the many options out there she decided that The Container Store Custom Closet‘s newest Avera Line would be the right one to select to create her custom closet. “I wanted a clean and contemporary aesthetic – not the traditional heavy closet design,” she said. “I chose Avera in Stone because the closet opens into the master bedroom and I wanted to keep that same color story. It’s a beautiful transition and the bedroom, closet, and bath all speak to each other.”
The Avera line by The Container Store is their latest addition to their custom closet range, sitting in between their luxe completely built-in Laren range and their modular Elfa Classic and Elfa Décor range. Everything about the Avera range is customizable: built-in LED lighting, back wall panels, open-with-a-touch and soft-close drawers. Whether Shannon wanted a place to display sunglasses or hang her pairs of jeans, there was the right solution available. “I really needed a little bit of everything,” she said. “I needed a lot of shoe storage, I wanted to be able to see my items without it looking cluttered, and I wanted a lot of lighting.”
As for the process from start-to-finish, the Container Store offered the ease that Shannon was looking for: “They allowed me to be involved as much or as little as I wanted. In my case, they owned and coordinated the entire project from A to Z! It started with an in-home consultation with a designer who took measurements. Together, we picked out a finish and discussed suggestions to enhance the design and also maximize storage. The following day I was sent over a floor plan. We communicated back and forth with a few adjustments. The whole process took 3 days and within 5 weeks not only was my new closet installed, but it also doubled in size!”
With her shoes now well displayed and organized, her cherished designer finds up on shelves, she now had the grown-up closet she hoped for without having to do heavy design lifting. “The Container Store Custom Closets helped me identify what I need, don’t need, and how my closet wasn’t working. Now I’m happy every time I see it.”
