Talent abounds when it comes to the aesthetically minded Nicole Cohen of Sketch 42. A true triple threat – visual artist, formidable decorator, and blogger extraordinaire – this New York City gal has no shortage of inspiration when it comes to creating beauty.
In January 2011, Rue debuted the airy and art filled Upper East Side home Nicole shares with her husband and two children. Needless to say, we fell in love instantly. With no formal decorating training to speak of, it’s awe-inspiring to see Nicole’s natural knack for design at work.
It isn’t easy to pick just one favorite room in Nicole’s expansive home (which was originally two apartments combined into one), but we do go weak in the knees for her luxurious, cozy bedroom.
At Rue, we’re big fans of dark, moody rooms and what better place to experiment with that then in the bedroom. Dark hues help create a sense of being enveloped in warmth- exactly what you want to feel when your head hits the pillow after a long day. Sticking to a simple, yet powerful palette of black and white, Nicole brings depth and interest into her space with loads of textures, shapes, and patterns. Of course, no room would be complete without a generous dose of attention to detail! We love the unexpected moments sprinkled throughout- like the horse hook for the curtains and brass task lighting hanging over the bed.
Always inspiring, we can’t wait to see what Nicole creates next!
