“This beautiful 5,000 square foot property was ‘almost’ completed in 2009 by a builder with the intent to sell,” designer Liz Goldberg of CAROLYNLEONA says. “Due to the financial crisis, the builder had to wrap up portions of the home with subpar finishes and get the home on the market. Our clients, a young family of 4, strongly desired to make this house a home. The main priority was function first, beauty second, and with the help of CAROLYNLEONA, we soared well beyond the clients’ lofty expectations.”
Today, we take a peek at the property’s mudroom — a dated space with no storage, a washer and dryer, and a very small garage sink. “The client had tons of bins to store things, and she had one or two collapsible drying racks,” Liz recalls. “The space was poorly lit and a very bare room, which was extremely dysfunctional with a lack of storage and piles of things everywhere.”
Since organization was key, the CAROLYNLEONA team started with custom built-ins in Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy and brass hardware from CB2. They re-tiled the floor, painted the walls, sourced a new farmhouse sink and faucet, added great light fixtures into the space, and installed a custom light-filtering roller shade. For the counters, they installed quartz for its durability.
“Our clients main ask was to enjoy being in the space and wanted the space to look refined, comforting, and cool,” Liz shares. We would say achieved that goal and then some! See the before & after pictures in the slideshow.
