Lifestyle blogger Kailee Wright has a special story when it comes to her home, and it begins during her husband’s time in medical school. “Medical school comes with a lot of ups and downs,” she tells us. “You are pulled away from your family and the life you knew, and taken through some of the hardest times of your life. With crazy schedules, you see less and less of each other, and it can be a struggle. One thing we loved to do when we had time together was talk about and work on our dream house plans. Someday when this long school journey was over, we would be able to build our dream. We sat down literally with pencil and paper in hand, and drew out every square foot of our house, exactly how we wanted it.” Over time, two main goals became clear. One: to make it a place where their family could be and grow together comfortably. “A place that felt like home,” Kailee muses. And two: “To have a modern functional place, with zero wasted space.”

Kailee worked with Ashley Cooper, a designer and stylist, to bring the interiors of her custom home to life. It’s light, bright, and functional — and we’d say she achieved her two goals quite successfully. The kitchen, dining, and family room, which Kailee calls the heart of the home, is truly the property’s focal point. “My main goals for the kitchen + dining room were clean, white, light, and bright. I loved the look of the ever so trendy all white kitchens, but I love to be different and a little outside the box too,” Kailee laughs. “The wood we used on the cabinets was the perfect solution. It brings in the warmth the space needs so it doesn’t feel completely sterile. We had them line up the wood grain exactly so it keeps the clean, modern lines. I love that it gives it such a unique look, while still staying timeless.”

Since the kitchen and dining area is fairly neutral, she wanted to add some fun pops with the furniture in the family room. “Article is full of the exact modern look I was going for,” Kailee recalls. “I saw the Sven Sofa before we even moved in and knew I had to have it! I love the combo of kind of mid century meets modern clean lines. Ashley Cooper, our designer, convinced me to try pairing it with the velvet Kits Sofa. I’ll admit, velvet made me nervous, but you guys it is amazing! The texture and pop it brings to the space is exactly what it needed.”

The master bedroom was the next space that Kailee had a vision for at the start. She recalls, “When I sat down to go over the design with my close friend + designer Ashley, I told her I wanted it to feel clean, cozy, light, and bright. The first step to getting the light and bright I craved was the big windows! As I’m sure you’ve noticed, we have them around the whole house.” This room, truth be told, has become a place where the Wrights spend a lot of time as family too. “Sometimes it is to tackle the laundry together. Sometimes it’s for a movie snuggle on the big cozy bed we found from Rove Concepts. We wanted the room to be comfortable for them too. We added this fun sofa from Bed, Bath & Beyond to the space and it is quickly becoming a favorite spot in the house.”

In the slideshow, Kailee takes us on a tour of the home — sharing special tidbits and design details along the way. We admire what a family focused and functional home she’s created, and think you will too!
