As editors, we travel for business a lot. Whether it’s for industry trade shows, store openings, or scouting great design, we’re often on the road with our travel essentials in tow. When it comes to lodging, we’re always in search of that elusive balance: equal parts form and function. We value a well-designed hotel, but require basic business amenities that some boutique hotels lack: plenty of conveniently located outlets to charge our devices, super fast wifi, a comfortable workspace to tackle our to-do lists from the road, and a great bar to celebrate a busy day of work. (Okay, that last one was more pleasure than business!)

Located in one of Portland’s most recognizable landmarks you’ll find the Heathman Hotel. On a recent trip to Oregon, we checked into the recently renovated property and were pleased as punch. It was a welcome respite in the heart of downtown, with a comfortable lobby and local beers offered at check in. Just off the reception area is a soaring two-story library, which features over 3,000 books signed by their authors. It’s a striking representation of more than 30 years of guests who have signed their books to contribute to the collection. It’s a great spot to enjoy your morning coffee before a busy day of exploring.

Our room was quite spacious and incredibly comfortable. (You can take a tour on our Instagram Story Highlight labeled Portland.) Since this is part of Provenance Hotels, we were able enjoy the property’s signature amenities like a pillow menu (as comfy as it sounds), a spiritual menu (as enlightening as it sounds), and Well+Fit kits delivered to right to the room, allowing us to stream online workouts with the proper equipment. Pro tip… the kit comes in handy if you over-indulge at one of Portland’s many incredible restaurants.
