Based in Fairfield County, Connecticut, D2 Interieurs is an award winning design firm with a well-known penchant for color. Their approach to high-end residential design is playful and fun, yet never loses its sophisticated edge. The firm was founded by Denise Davies, a #girlboss with an innate sense of style. Together with artist Kerri Rosenthal, whose expertise in color theory and composition is unparalleled, D2 Interieurs is a true collaboration between designer and artist. Today, we’re stepping inside one of their latest projects, which the team calls House of Joy:

What can you tell us about the client? Who lives in the home, and what were their goals when hiring D2 Interiors?
Denise Davies: They are a young, casual family and so the home had to be child friendly in which every room had a relaxed vibe.

What condition was the home in at the beginning of the project?
Kerri Rosenthal: The home was built in the 80s and we oversaw its gut renovation down to the studs. A 2nd floor master bedroom suite was added as well as 2 additional bathrooms, new flooring, mechanics, 2 bars, and D2 interiors signature Kitchen Botox.

You call this space “House of Joy.” Tell us about that!
Denise: The owner of the home, owns a cycling studio in Westport called Joyride. When we first sat down with her she expressed to us that she wanted a happy, casual home. We instantly thought of House of Joy as a double entendre.

Love it. Those personal touches make the space. Do you have a favorite room or moment in the home?
Kerri: We love all of our rooms like they are our children, you can’t choose just one. Each room is super special.

Art plays a big part in the home. What can you tell us about the pieces you used?
Denise: Kerri Rosenthal is also an accomplished artist and many of her paintings are in this home. One of them in particular, the one in the dining room, inspired the design plan. Our client fell in love with the landscape and so we started with the painting and the rest of the room just flowed. There is one of Kerri’s happy Drippy Yellow Hearts in her sunroom, adding sunshine during the darker winter months as well as an abstract painting in the master suite.

D2 is soon to celebrate 5 years in business! (Congratulations!) What do you have planned next?
Denise: We are in the process of launching our product division, RODA HOME, which we are extremely excited about and feels like a natural progression to our business. We currently are designing and manufacturing all of our custom rugs which will be available to the public and the trade in the spring of 2016. We are also launching a wallpaper line inspired by Kerri’s art. The name of the line is HAPPY WALLS to coincide with our happy interiors. RODA HOME will also be carrying our custom lucite mirrors.

Your hashtag is #Happyhomehappylife. Tell us what this means to you:
Denise & Kerri: Your home is your life. You spend years and years in one house, and if it has to be a reflection of you, what you want to see when you walk in the door? We are known for using bold colors in our homes and they are still sophisticated and elegant. This is why our clients come to D2: Colors dilate the eyes and make you happy, hence #happyhomehappylife.
