Lana is a small town in northern Italy that is so far north, German is the dominate language. It’s here we’ve discovered our next dream destination. The owner of 1477 Reichhalter, Klaus Dissertori, collaborated with interior designer Christina von Berg and architect Zeno Bampi to resurrect an old, simple “gasthaus,” or restaurant where locals gather all day.The previous owner had run the restaurant for four decades but when Klaus purchased the space, the building had been empty for about eight years.

The team carefully renovated the wood furniture and the bar in the restaurant, a dining destination that now specializes in local and seasonal cooking. According to Klaus, he knew he wanted to maintain the charm and coziness of the old gasthaus, and now the entire hotel is the place guests feel at home hanging out all day. If they do decide to venture out, there is the option of nearby hikes or taking one of the hotel’s Pelago bikes out for a cruise. A partnership with Hotel Schwarzschmied gives guest access to the Susanne Kaufmann spa and yoga classes.

At the hotel, the 500 year old wood floors have been polished and restored and the walls have been stripped of 20 layers of colorful paint to reveal beautiful paintings. These historical details blend with midcentury modern furnishings for a minimalist Old-World luxe look. See more in the slideshow!
