If you’re new to Rue, we reserve Fridays for sharing some of our favorite finds across the web. It’s a combination of resources you should know, chic decor discoveries, favorite books, and more. Here’s what we loved most this week:
— The Black Interior Designers Network (BIDN) launched the Designer Ally’s How To, which is geared towards combating racism within the Interior Design community. They say it best, explaining, “It is time to take action: through conversations, by educating yourselves about institutionalized racism here in the United States and within our own industry, by peacefully protesting, by being an active anti-racist voice and leader in our community, donating funding to your community, organizations of color and by making contributions to groups working hard to make equality for all people a reality.” Make your donation today.
— Interior designer Breegan Jane can do it all! She creates beautiful spaces, brings joy to television sets across the country, AND has a book! Inspired by her travels to Kenya and the trying circumstances many children face in the country, Breegan created Carbie as a way to teach children how struggles can actually make way for our greatest accomplishments. Carbie’s story highlights the moments in our lives when we are able to see the first crack of light leading us to a better future at a time when we have given up hope. Snag your copy here.
— Though international travel is off the table right now, you can still bring Italy home to you! McKinnon and Harris, the luxury outdoor furniture company known for their heirloom quality pieces, will for the first time ever open up their inventory to consumers through a storefront on 1st Dibs. Happy shopping!
— Another way to bring Italy home is through our friend Annette Joseph’s new book, Italy Is My Boyfriend. Annette tells the story of her long love affair with the country, from early visits with her young children to eventually buying and renovating a home or two. It’s a fun read you’ll love!
— Neffi Walker, founder of The Black Home, has a great e-book for design lovers. To Make Your House a Home covers color, textiles, furnishings… all of the tips & tricks Neffi has learned in her impressive 10 year career. Bonus… it’s delivered right to your email address so you can read it this weekend!
— Here’s a bright idea! Add one of 54 Kibo’s Moroccan ceiling lights to your space for some romantic, dappled light. The unique, handmade pendants celebrate contemporary African design from Morocco.
— Bay Area floral favorite, Matilda’s Bloombox, is now available across the country! Send someone you love some fragrant blooms… or order a bouquet for yourself!
