On a scorching Saturday in June, we made our way to The London West Hollywood — one of the prettiest hotels in LA. The occasion? To celebrate the 2016 Summer collection from children’s fashion brand, Janie and Jack. Co-hosted by designer Jeremiah Brent — who was joined by husband, Nate Berkus and their sweet daughter, Poppy Brent Berkus — the event featured kid-friendly water activities like a sailboat station, sprinklers and kiddie-pools, DIY flower crowns , and a watercolorist who offered up portraits of the kids. Let us be the first to tell you, there is truly nothing more adorable than a bunch of little ones running around in Janie and Jack swimwear, shorts, and sundresses.

Notable guests included Busy Philipps and kids Birdie and Cricket, Tia Mowry and son Cree, Sara Foster and daughter Valentina, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and his kids Dekker and Lachlyn, Dania Ramirez and twins John Aether and Gaia, Tammin Sursok and daughter Phoenix, Layla and Emelia Golfieri, Amanda Righetti and son Knox, Ava Kolker, as well as Cupcakes and Cashmere blogger Emily Schuman and daughter Sloan and stylist Miriam Sternoff.

Of course, not all of our upcoming parties will be so star-studded or well-planned, so we tapped Jeremiah for his 4 top tips on summer entertaining with little ones:

  1. “As parents, we are always looking for little tricks on how to make life easier. When throwing a more formal dinner party, choose unbreakable place settings and cups that pair back to the color palette of the adult table settings. This will make for beautiful family photos while helping to avoid any potential accidents.”
  1. “One of the things I love about summer is spending time outdoors as a family. There is nothing better than an afternoon picnic in your backyard or favorite park. When throwing a summer party, it’s all in the details. Details should flow through everything, from the way you dress the table, to the way you dress the family. “
  1. “Summer entertaining can be a lot of fun, but a lot of work at the same time. The key is minimizing stress, keep it simple yet stylish.”
  1. “As parents, we know that an afternoon in the kiddie pool always leads to lunch and snack time. When hosting an afternoon lunch in your backyard with a group of youngsters, look to outdoor mini furniture to provide a great place for the little ones to enjoy a break for a snack or story time. Besides, they look adorable sitting side-by-side the adult version in your backyard.”
