Rati Sahi Levesque is the Chief Merchant at The RealReal – a premier online luxury resale store. Born in San Francisco, Rati studied economics before opening a successful boutique in the city’s trendy Russian Hill neighborhood. It was there she realized the power of consignment – and the place that readied her to join CEO Julie Wainwright and The RealReal. According to Rati, the most fulfilling part of working at The RealReal is the creative selling process… and access to the world’s most beautiful fashion, of course! The RealReal features authenticated, pre-owned designer fashion, fine jewelry, watches, and art from the likes of Chanel, Hermès, Cartier, and more. And with a team like Rati behind the wheel, it’s no wonder the process of buying and selling luxury goods is simple and, more importantly, trusted:
MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
I had a boutique in San Francisco’s Russian Hill neighborhood with a small consignment rack in the back. That rack turned over ten times faster than any other rack in the shop. Lightbulb moment! I realized then there was huge demand for luxury consignment. Fast forward nine years and that demand has only increased. The RealReal now attracts millions of luxury consignment shoppers (and consignors) on a daily basis.
I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
I check my email and feed my two-year-old. He yells at me, “CEREAL, CEREAL” until he is fed.
Loving what you do.
YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
I’d love to collaborate on a shoot for our fine jewelry and watch category with either Géraldine Saglio or Veronique Didry who style French Vogue’s Bijoux feature.
THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN SAN FRANCISCO:
WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I watch a good movie or read a book. I can watch “I Am Love” over and over again.
ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Everything falls into place.
IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
At TheRealReal, which will be the premier luxury resale brand worldwide by then!
ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Laugh at yourself.
