Azadeh Shladovsky is a woman of many, many talents. She’s an interior designer with an impressive portfolio and a furniture designer who’s best known for architectural (and beautifully textural) statement pieces. Her latest project? A collaborative short film and inaugural show with filmmaker Sayer Danforth, opening today. In her own words, she chose this (somewhat) unexpected project, where she experiments with preconceived visual associations, because “it seemed natural to engage in this experiment through the medium of film.” She continues, “the process presented another layer of visual decision-making, namely that of the filmmaker.” With such an impressive & motivated career, we had to find out what drives her. Today, Azadeh shares her must-haves, her dreams, and what inspires her most:

MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
When my son was born…it elevated my understanding and value of life and reaffirmed my desire to make every moment count.

I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
I say hello to that beautiful cup of coffee.

SUCCESS IS:
Fulfilling your potential without fear.

YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
An open mind and a fabulous pair of shoes!

MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
So many…several of which are currently taking place. I’m working with my favorite American ceramicist, Ani Kasten, on a lighting collection and I just finished working on a short film with filmmaker Sayer Danforth called ‘Unscene‘ which opens today, and runs through November 15.

THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN LA:
New York…it’s the Ying to LA’s Yang.

WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I get out in nature and sweat…running and cycling always renews and inspires me.

ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Embrace every aspect of your journey, the highs are insignificant without the lows, and it all informs who you become.

IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
Evolving and continuing to challenge boundaries.

ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Be true to yourself and don’t yield to expectations, labels and stereotypes.
