Founded in 2010, The Drybar has become a beauty staple for busy, stylish gals on the go. At first, we were skeptical of the nontraditional hair salon. No cuts, no color, just blowouts?? Our curiosity was quickly put to rest, however, and these days you’ll often find Team Rue starting our day at the beautiful Fillmore location here in San Francisco. The founder Alli Webb is more than an inspiration, she’s rapidly becoming an icon. We admire her drive and thought process- she saw a need, and created a $40 solution. That solution is totally changing the way we get ready. We took 5 minutes with Alli to find out her savvy secrets:
MY LIGHT BULB MOMENT:
While operating my mobile blowdry business (2008-2009), it occurred to me that my clients had two bad choices in the marketplace for blowouts. 1. Going to their cut/color salon and overpaying or 2. Going to a discount chain, where the ambience and experience was kinda icky. I realized my clients were struggling with the same bad choices I had contended with my whole life as a curly/frizzy haired girl. So, I went to my brother Michael Landau and my husband Cameron Webb (both bald, btw) with the idea of opening a shop that only focused on blowouts, at an affordable price in a cool, beautiful space. They loved the idea and as they say, the rest is history.
I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
Coffee! And morning snuggles from my boys.
Loving what you do and who you do it with. I absolutely love my job and the people I get to work with day in and day out.
YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
Eyeliner and my iPhone.
MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
Right now I am obsessing over Jenna Lyons and am DYING to work with her.
THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN LA:
NY! I lived in the city throughout my 20s and love going back (usually monthly), but sometimes wish I lived there again.
WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I hop on Pinterest or take some me time. Decompressing does wonders for me.
ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Trust your instincts more… I do now more than ever and it’s very empowering. I am not as embarrassed or afraid to be wrong. Everyone is wrong sometimes.
IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
Talking about hair somewhere…
ABOVE ALL ELSE:
I am ridiculously grateful for my family and all the wonderful opportunities Drybar has brought to us and the thousands of stylists and women. I’m extremely proud that we are able to have such a positive impact on so many people.
