How can we describe Kate Albrecht, founder of blog/ e-commerce site/ international brand Mr. Kate? Endlessly stylish. Inspirationally creative. Incredibly driven. Her unique sense of style, creativity, drive, and a wicked sense of humor combine to make Mr. Kate a site like none other. Recently Kate shared her Easy Faux-Lapis Furniture DIY (so easy even we can do it!) and today she’s sharing her words of wisdom as a serious lady boss.
MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
I was an actress in my early twenties who worked in small roles for TV and film. As a side project, I started a jewelry line that I sold on Etsy as a way to vent my creative frustration that was building up from the audition grind and playing less than stimulating roles for other people’s creative projects. My light bulb moment came when I started reading fashion blogs and thought, “I could do that!” aka start a blog and also work in my jewelry designs as a way of chronicling my creative projects. Thus, I started the Mr. Kate blog and shop (with the help of my web genius husband Joey) and now it’s our full time job!
I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
I have a glass of lemon water and some yerba mate tea… I know, I’m so LA.
It really is a state of mind. I struggle constantly with relishing in our successes because being an entrepreneur means maintaining a hyper focus on the next step. I already feel successful that we’ve grown Mr. Kate from a weird little style/DIY blog to a brand that inspires millions through our content and products. I’ll feel really successful when I figure out how to lead a more balanced life i.e. learn how to chill the F out!
YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
At least one piece of jewelry and something crazy going on with my nails. I’m eternally addicted to nail art.
MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
My dream fashion collab would be, Givenchy, when he was working with his muse Audrey Hepburn. Dream interior design collab would be Kelly Wearstler, I love how bold she is with her mixes of pattern and metallics.
THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN LA:
The South of France, where the pace is slow and the carbs are bountiful.
WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I scroll through Instagram, Pinterest or We Heart It and then quickly feel like an idiot for even thinking I can get uninspired for a second in this beautifully content saturated world in which we live.
ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
You’re going to work harder than you even thought was possible but it’s all good because that’s just what needs to happen to live your dream. Oh, and take a business class and get more massages.
IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
Having grown Mr. Kate into an omnimedia empire, hopefully with a kid or two and even more comfortable in my own skin.
ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Wipe your butt.
