Lauren Renfrow is the owner and creative director of Times Two Design, a glamorous home decor line that takes inspiration from the earth. Lauren actually got her start in start in environmental consulting before starting her first business — a popular floral design company. Working with flowers day in and day out is what sparked the idea for Times Two Design, as she often found herself reaching for quartz and other minerals in her arrangements. For her lamps, trays, and other decor items, Lauren pairs natural elements (like minerals, stones, and antlers) alongside modern materials like acrylic and white lacquer. She’s carved out a niche in the decor world that truly stands out, and we wanted to know more:
MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
I was a floral designer and used a lot of quartz points and other minerals in my arrangements. One day I guess I did truly have a light bulb moment because I decided to make a lamp. My first lamp was the quartz point lamp and the rest of my products have kind of sprung organically from that first “light in the darkness!”
I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
I drink an iced tea. I’m not a coffee girl, but iced tea clears my head for the day. After I gulp down my tea, I head to a Flywheel Spin class. The 45-minute class gets me centered and focused for the day. After tackling a class I really do feel like I can conquer whatever lays ahead!
Being happy… happy with BOTH your home and work life. As a small business owner and single mom, it often feels like I’ve got quite a juggling act going on. But these days, I feel like I’ve got the formula right; I’m inspired by my designs at work and even more so when I get home and spend time with my sweet daughter, Addison. A smile on her face when she visits my office sums it up. I’m proud of her and she is proud of me, and that is the BEST!
YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
Perrier and my iPhone. I love that I can conduct accounting and business on the fly while scrolling through Instagram. Nothing beats seeing my products in someone’s feed! The Perrier is frankly a total obsession. I love my fizzy water!
MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
Wayland Gregory. In his time, he was lauded for his innovative and art deco designs. I have a few small pieces of his original pottery that I managed to win on eBay. Something about his gold glaze very much inspires me. I think a combination of acrylic with a dash of mineral accents in some of his sculptural pieces would be VERY exciting.
THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN DALLAS:
Right now, I’d have to say the Gasparilla Inn on Boca Grande, FL. It’s a perfect little mix of natural Florida and Lilly Pulitzer land: Perfectly preppy and picturesque. My family and I visit once a year and I have so many treasured memories of this special place. The old Banyan trees and darling houses take me away to a special place.
WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I take a breath, take a walk, and spend time with my daughter. Her enthusiasm makes me so happy. Color and nature are big inspirations for me.
ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Be true to yourself and your beliefs.
IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
Continuing to lovingly curate designs that impact people’s lives. I’m excited to see where time takes me and thrilled to be along for the ride.
ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Be honest in work and life!
