Kerry Joyce began his career in set design – even winning an Emmy for his work in the entertainment industry – but soon realized it was the interior aspect that fueled his passion. Going on to launch his eponymous firm, which has offices in LA and Connecticut, he continued racking up awards. Kerry was selected as one of the “Design 100” for Metropolitan Home magazine for his interior design work, featured as “Design Star” in House Beautiful magazine and been named one of their best interior designers in America… for seven years in a row! In addition to his work in interiors, Kerry launched Kerry Joyce Textiles – a refined collection inspired by his travels. We’ll admit, we were intrigued by the successful designer and wanted to know more. With that, we give you 5 Minutes With…
MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
Happened when I bridged an earlier career in Set Design with Interior Design. I realized that my background in theater and television gave me a unique perspective for decorating homes. The “stage tableau” in theater and “the establishing shot” in film, from the beginning I approached my work in residential design with a cinematic point of view that eventually became my aesthetic signature.
I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
The New York Times, a cup of Peets decaf French Roast coffee, and just the right amount of George Stephanopoulos.
When a client sees their home for the first time and is overwhelmed with happiness.
YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
My uniform. Black jeans, black polo, black tennis shoes. I dream in color, but need my own look to be detached from my life in design.
MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
My wonderful and talented team for Kerry Joyce Textiles. I couldn’t do it without them.
THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN LA:
I love my country house in Connecticut, five acres of river frontage, it is a dream. But I am so incredibly blessed to live in California. We have the best weather in the world.
WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I travel. New adventures, exploring other cultures. Visual stimulation is everything.
ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Planting a succulent garden.
IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
Continuing to travel the world, sourcing beautiful fabric for my textile company.
ABOVE ALL ELSE:
