The calmness and serenity in every room of our latest issue’s cover feature is the feeling we’re constantly trying to strive for in our own homes. If, like us, you can’t get enough of this neutral yet welcoming space, we’re revisiting Lisa Staton’s family home today so you, too, can Get the Look.

Lisa started by creating a base of neutrals in her home. White walls with putty colored trim complement the Tudor architecture. (In the home’s renovation, she re-designed the fireplace surround to better fit the space.) Two oversized sofas in neutral linen serve as the base for the cozy room.

Next, natural materials such as the jute rug and simple, light wood coffee table add warmth. The shapes are all timeless yet steamlined. A few bits of greenery also contribute to the serenity.

Finally, the details bring in handmade textures such as the woven fabrics of the pillows. Get the same effect through handthrown pottery or dyed shibori, adding just enough color in a limited palette. All that’s left is to brew a nice cup of tea and settle in with a good book.
