Hopefully you’ve already perused the wish lists of my fellow editors, Kelli and Kat, earlier this week. As Rue’s Market Editor it’s my job to compile the gift guides for every holiday issue, which means I spend a lot of time thinking of all the types of gifts we have to get. While it’s fun to put on different hats and try to think like different people, I enjoying putting together a selection that is purely about what I like.

As I create my wishlist throughout the year, the main deciding point is whether this will be something I’ll use/want for many years to come. Occasionally it’s fun to try something really trendy like a high street top or bright shade of lipstick, but when it comes down to it, the things I bring into my home and wardrobe have to last.

Since I am already on the topic of fashion, this coat from Modern Citizen is a classic. I love to invest in a good winter coat every year, and the oatmeal felted wool in this one feels so elegant. Similarly, Byredo perfumes are a delight to put on. Their fragrance is complex and sophisticated, which always makes me feel more dressed up when I wear them. As for accessories, I am not one of those girls that goes gaga over diamonds, but these minimalist earrings from Still House NY are the perfect understated luxury that you can wear again and again. Finally, we all have our beauty frustrations and mine is my constantly chapped lips. This lip duo from 111Skin locks in all of the moisture and plumps your lips up without having to get any cosmetic work done.

On to the home… my fiancé and I spend a lot of time enjoying slow meals at home. We love to head to the local farmers’ market, try new recipes, and open a great bottle of wine. The Kinfolk Table is an inspirational classic, something I refer to over and over again to achieve that effortless graceful look for our table. This brass pepper mill from Freight has been a close ally of mine for getting just the right amount of cracked pepper in my dishes as well as serving as an eye-catching statement piece in my kitchen. These espresso cups are hand-made from a ceramicist in Portugal — I love that they are handmade and support the hard work of a talented maker.

I find it hard to get through these dark winter months — nightfall just comes so early! One of the best ways that I keep my spirits uplifted (besides a strong cocktail) is the warm glow of candles. I am obsessed with Japanese ironware, so this candle stand is on the top of my list!
