The key to holiday décor, according to Anissa Zajac, half of the creative duo behind House Seven Design + Build, is mixing a few easy DIY touches and simple items with a base of neutral furnishings. Anissa recently gave her living room a holiday refresh with the help of Maiden Home. The room’s neutral palette is the ultimate backdrop for seasonal decor and playful touches, yet will be able to easily transition once the season is over. Here are Anissa’s six tips on getting your home holiday ready, simply!
Create a clean backdrop. On slipcovered pieces – like the Maiden Home Dune sofa – swap your slipcover for a crisp/winter white look. This bright neutral makes the perfect backdrop for holiday accessorizing.
Create graphic garland decor using craft-store hoops. Simply tie trimmings from a few different tree varieties (I used fir, white pine, even bay leaves to make mine) using florist twine to the hoops and layer for a sophisticated look.
Add height and dimension to mantels decorated with garlands by nestling white taper candles among the greenery.
Balance more modern and graphic pieces – like the Maiden Home Mercer chair – with plaid accessories for a cozy, traditional element.
To create the perfect wrapping (and elevate the look under tree), use butcher paper or raw paper boxes tied with black velvet ribbon for a luxe, magazine-worthy look
Don’t overload on “holiday” decor – a pine-green velvet pillow mixed in with your season-less neutrals can make a big, yet elegant impact. Add a subtle hint of holiday by popping a sprig of your favorite greenery into the bottom of your hurricane vases.
