When it comes to interiors, floral prints can get a bad rap. Many people associate floral prints with “old lady” decor, a myth that couldn’t be further from the truth. Florals can be chic and sophisticated – and add just the right amount of “pop” to a room. We will admit, however, that a few rules need to be followed to keep it from looking too much like the set of Golden Girls.

Fashion designer Lizzie Renkert does a perfect job at balancing floral prints with modern design. First off, she’s a mix & match pro. Lizzie uses prints with varying scale. Small flowers alongside large blooms keeps everything in balance, stopping that “busy” vibe in its tracks. Also, it’s important to bring a lot of neutrals into the space, as Lizzie has done. That way, the majority of the canvas is totally blank – allowing for plenty of floral accents. Finally, you’ll notice the colors in this room are very complementary. While there are a lot of prints, they all have notes of the same color – which really ties the space together.

While we’ll always have a soft spot for Blanche Devereaux’s bedroom, we like this approach much more. Would you try it in your home?
