Our weekly “Trick to Try” is all about easy decor fixes that encourage you to steer clear of the boring and ordinary, each tip ready to be uniquely catered to your space. We pore through the archives of Rue to find the smallest details that make the biggest impact, and then pass them on to you in hopes you’ll find a way to make it your own. This week, of course, is no different.

We’ve seen many beds that embrace the traditional duvet cover- sleek and monochrome. And it’s true, we love the elegant look of one textile. However, there is something so alluring about a textured material… especially when it’s paired alongside many fabrics and finishes. In our photo example, Crystal Palecek applied this concept beautifully. Instead of a traditional duvet, she added an embroidered Otomi coverlet. Next to a patterned throw pillow, two rich, velvet ones add another hit of contrast. The bedding is welcoming, interesting, and in a word- stunning.

What we love most about this is how quickly the concept can change from aesthetic to aesthetic. If you prefer a bohemian look, add a vintage patchwork quilt and a pom-pom throw. If you love color, a bright, fluffy duvet alongside a diamond-stitched coverlet in your favorite hues. No matter the style, the result will be layers of comfort. Sweet dreams, indeed!
