If we could cross a Van Gogh painting with a Mexican hacienda, and turn it into a well designed space, we’d get this breathtaking boutique hotel. We know… that was a bit of a stretch, but it’s undeniable that l’Otel has a painterly quality to it’s stunningly classic Mexican structure. Nestled in the chicest part of the bohemian city of San Miguel de Allende, l’Otel offers the comforts of an elegant pied-à-terre with the luxury of a five star hotel. It’s the perfect retreat after a long day of browsing the city’s art galleries and wandering down small colonial streets.

What we love most about this hotel is its charm- all the small details that give it a unique feel. l’Otel has only four suites, each with it’s own design made up of bright hues, botanical prints, and luxurious silks and velvets. From the reclaimed wood shutters to the Moroccan style arches, even the architecture has intricate details giving the structure its own unique character. You can head up to the rooftop terrace to enjoy impressive views over the colonial city while sipping a much needed evening cocktail, or even borrow the hotel’s turquoise bikes for a ride around town. Let’s just say that we don’t need any more convincing.

We love thinking about travel in a new way- instead of hitting its famous beaches, our next trip to Mexico will be making our way down through the center of the country, enjoying the rich cultural heritage it has to offer… and of course, finding out which town has the best margarita. L’Otel San Miguel de Allende is definitely on the top of our must-see list; what person who loves interior design and travel could resist!

We are always on the look out for some local knowledge- for those readers who are well acquainted with Mexico, we’d love to know your must-see places, hotels and restaurants!
