Fringe has seen many interpretations. The Roaring Twenties, the Wild West, and the Summer of ’69 all included “fringy” fashion. Today, the trend has been reinvented with a modern twist, and is quite frankly stealing the show – making notable appearances in many top fashion shows AND helping one young designer take the competition on Project Runway.
While there’s a thin line that crosses into “costumey,” we think the right amount of fringe can look modern and sophisticated. We recommend choosing one fringed piece and building your look around it. (As much as we wanted to pair these booties with that Michael Kors dress, it probably would have been a little over the top… and could trigger memories of Sesame Street.) It also helps to keep accessories relatively toned down – avoid a statement necklace that could get tangled in the material and instead opt for a classic timepiece, like this watch from Michele. Lastly, have fun with it! Fringe is festive and fashion forward – perfect for those upcoming holiday parties!
