Ana Kamin always seems to know exactly what we’re craving. She’s made us potato saladsquash flatbread, and now – a holiday treat that is as cute as it is delicious. This Apple Cranberry Crumble is baked in a mason jar, which makes us wonder why all desserts aren’t prepared this way?! It’s quick and easy – you likely have almost all of the ingredients on hand already. It’s perfectly portioned – so you can make it for that next dinner party (no time wasted cutting the cake!), or just enjoy it straight from the jar while you watch Home Alone for the 3rd time this season (we won’t tell). It also makes a great gift. Instead of your traditional sugar cookies, give these to your friends and neighbors! Just tie a festive ribbon around the jar and voila! Needless to say, we’re stocking up on mason jars and apples this weekend:

4 medium apples
4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup almond meal
4 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
8 tbsp (1 stick) unsalted butter (room temperature)

Preheat over to 380°.

Peel the apples and cut into ½ inch squares. Wash the cranberries. In a large bowl combine apples, cranberries, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix until fruit is coated.

In another bowl, place flour, sugar, almond meal, and cinnamon. Whisk to incorporate the dry ingredients.

Cut the butter into small pieces and add to the dry ingredients. With your hands, make crumbles by kneading until the dough looks like breadcrumbs and the butter is well incorporated. (Sure, you can also use a food processor for this step, but with hands it’s more fun!)

Assemble the jar crumble: Use a small piece of butter to grease the inside of the jars. Add the fruit mixture to the jars, about ¼ full. Top the fruit with the dough crumbles until jar is full. Place jars on a baking sheet and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden-brown.

Let the jars cool for about 10 minutes and be careful – the glass will be super hot. You can enjoy the crumble hot or cold, with some ice cream or vanilla sauce. Bon appétit!
