When blogger and photographer, Marcella DiLonardo moved from the city to the town of Fonthill, Ontario, she gained more space in her new home. After tackling the master bedroom and home office, they had a third bedroom to convert into the ideal modern guest suite.
With a gorgeous marble bathroom already in existence, she decided to change its baby blue walls to All White from Farrow & Ball and paint the trim Wevet, the same as was used throughout the rest of the house. She then added vintage-style industrial lighting and mirror from Restoration Hardware to give it a bit more of an original look. Once the bathroom had been given a slight makeover, the guest bedroom suite was ready to be decorated.
When asked what was the inspiration for the space, Marcella replied: “Hygge! I wanted it to be minimal and clean, but also cozy. I wanted to make it feel like a hotel or retreat with cozy bedding, pillows galore, wool blankets, clean decor & plants.” Marcella designed around a bedroom set (bed frame, dresser, and bedside tables) that she fell in love with by Rove Concepts. “The walnut wood and rose gold hardware are two of my favorite things combined,” she explained. Having decided on the main pieces, she then layered in unique details. The throw on the bed was a blanket that her parents brought back from a trip to Ireland. She included a piece of woven wall art by a local shop called Oliver & Rust. The braided wool rug from Rugs USA was an especially great budget find for its quality. Finally, she decided on the mix of gray linen bedding from Crate & Barrel achieve that hotel look that she wanted to give the space.
