On Bahia Santa Maria, on one of Los Cabos’ few swimmable beaches, Montage Los Cabos offers an idyllic retreat where the arid landscape meets the turquoise water. Well known for its upscale setting and service, Montage decided to expand its accommodations to include a series of two or three-bedroom private residences where owners can enjoy the comforts of a fully accommodated home as well as the experience of a five-star resort. But, comforts and magnificent views weren’t the only assets that would be provided at the Montage Residences, each would have a fully-fledged design, crafted by the design team at Twin Dolphin Los Cabos.

“The residences feature open floor plans that connect effortlessly with the outdoors to allow owners to take advantage of the supreme Baja landscape,” Anna Ruby, Design Director at Twin Dolphins Los Cabos explained. “A graciously wide entry welcomes owners and guests into the open kitchen (featuring Miele and Viking appliances), dining, and living room, which extends onto the outdoor terrace. Every room is oriented to maximize views of Santa Maria Bay and the Sea of Cortez beyond, with the beautiful resort below.”

The two residences that we’re featuring here boast two completely unique concepts and designs: “For Residence 5221, our design vision was centered upon capturing the sophistication of Mexico City, but with a Baja beach twist,” she said. “An infusion of texture and whimsical pieces add character and personality, such as the entry ‘sombrero mirror’, hand-painted textiles and Mexican leather adorned pillows, woven pendants and thatched Palm floor lamp, and even a one-of-a-kind canoe that brought both a taste of the Baja as well as a gallery effect you’d expect to see in Ciudad de Mexico. The decision to work with a neutral palette was based on wanting the view of Santa Maria Bay to take center stage versus the interiors.”

Residence 6121, however, features bold moments of blues and turquoise and has a more whimsical feel. “This residence was designed to appeal to a younger affluent market as the perfect home for hipster couples to share, or for a modern family to bunk up and relax with a plethora of Instagrammable moments,” the designer shared. “The home is a representation of authentic Mexican craftsmanship through original artwork and ceramics, traditional equipale dining chairs painted in a bright white, hand-thatched master bedroom nightstands, as well as a triple queen room adorned with a hanging swing and Otomi embroidered bedding. A combo of Malibu chic and Mexican artistry, it’s the perfect retreat for south of the border entertaining, or creating family memories that celebrate a blending of culture and design.”
