As the Principal of MLK Studio – a luxury design firm based in Los Angeles – Meg Joannides is a busy woman. She specializes in projects from the ground up, and welcomes a challenge at every opportunity. Whether she’s working on a residential home or a large commercial project, she combines clean-lined sophistication, richness, and – most importantly – comfort. Her signature style is chic and timeless, and is sure to include a hearty dose of extravagance. Today, we give Meg our “5 Minutes With” treatment to see what makes her tick. Read on to find out about her favorite destinations, her dream job, and her (mandatory) weekly ritual:

MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
When I realized one day while sitting in my office in New York it was time to leave the comfort (and salary!) of the corporate world, move to Los Angeles and start my own business. I just intuitively knew I was ready!

I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
I have had my tea in bed, when it’s still dark and quiet in the house, and have contemplated what the day will look like. It’s a type of meditation for me.

SUCCESS IS:
In my work, it’s receiving a thank you note from a client whose home I have just finished installing telling me I have made their dreams come true. In my personal life, it’s knowing that my kids are happy and are becoming good little citizens of the world.

YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
A hat to give me cover until I can get to the hairdresser for a blow-out, my Fiorentini & Baker boots for when I’m on job sites, and my Baume de Rose lip balm by Terry.

 MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
To work on a residence in the south of France with British architect John Pawson. I love how he can make a bakery look zen. (Check out London’s famous Cannelle Cake Shop.)

THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN LA:
I was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and have lived in Munich and New York City. Traveling extensively in Europe, Eastern Europe, South America and Asia, I have been invited to events at incredible private homes – all amazing experiences. But even after seeing Oz, like Dorothy, I’ve got to say there’s no place like home, and that’s in L.A.

WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I travel – traveling keeps my creative juices flowing.

ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Look at all of your life’s encounters as learning experiences and potential opportunities.  Broaden your mind and your reach….you never know what might lead to something great!

IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
Still designing, building my business and traveling. My work is my passion and I don’t think I will ever stop. My father is 85 years old and still working, so I think it’s in my blood.

ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Hold your family and loved ones close. My kids are everything to me. And a cocktail once a week with girlfriends is mandatory! It’s the best therapy.
