In 2012, Barbara Viteri launched her eponymous management firm (Viteri Style Management) to help propel interior designers to the forefront of their industry. Combining her understanding of office functionality with tech savvy software, she’s able to help designers take their business to the next level while allowing their focus to remain on what’s truly important to them – design. With her guidance, designers gain reporting tools to track orders, manage projects, and simplify accounting – resulting in a major efficiency boost and an overall better business. This year, Barbara partnered with The Design Network as the creator, executive producer, and host of “Designerlebrity™ Talk with Barbara Viteri”, a lively and entertaining talk show with celebrity designers in the hot seat. Each episode features a recent project of the designer’s choice, viewer Q&A’s, and what Barbara calls a “Hashtag Alert.” Add in a plethora of surprises and prizes and you’ve got our latest guilty pleasure. Today, we chat with Barbara about her career path thus far – and find out what’s next!
MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT:
My light bulb must have a low wattage. There really was no specific moment that led me to my current career. It honestly has been a dimming process that has evolved into a very bright future. My first company, Viteri Style Management launched in 2012 which has been very successful to garner the launch of my second company, Viteri Style Productions this year. There was no clear path to this, just a short length of stringing lights that got me here.
I CAN’T START MY DAY UNTIL:
My children greet me in bed with a snuggle and “Good morning mama”. This is followed by me answering all my emails to start my day off with an empty inbox. Mind you, I don’t go to bed unless I have an empty inbox too.
When you can give back. Be it financially, with your time or knowledge, there is no better sense of success then when you can make a positive change in someone’s life.
YOU’LL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
My cell phone, breath mints, thank you cards and stamps.
MY DREAM COLLABORATION:
This is a fantastic question! After starting my talk show Designerlebrity™ Talk, I realized I can actually have a platform to make my dream collaborations real. Designerlebrity is a brand that is spotlighting some amazing people not only on the interior design side of this industry, but showcasing some talented manufactures as well. It’s only a matter of time, before an authentic collaboration is born. I would say just keep watching as something is bound to happen before your very eyes! (Seriously, great question.)
THE ONLY PLACE BETTER THAN NEW YORK CITY:
Hands down for me there is no better place than New York. I’m born and bred here. The concrete jungle of Manhattan is my heartbeat, but I can enjoy serene water views and country style living just a few hours away from my home. I have a plethora of spots for art and culture in New York to feed my soul. With all those options to fulfill any of my needs makes NYC a tough place to beat.
WHEN I FEEL UNINSPIRED:
I take it outside. I’m lucky to live near the water. The entire concept of my talk show was created by my frequent trips to a gorgeous water front spot with my beach chair, sunscreen, pen and paper in hand. I found I am never creative in my office in front of a computer screen. I take it outside always for inspiration.
ADVICE I WISH I HAD 5 YEARS AGO:
Don’t purchase that fixer-upper of a house. It is a million dollar expense that will never get completed and will ruin your peace of mind.
IN 5 YEARS FIND ME:
In new construction hopefully. This is not a joke. I can’t stress how important it is to live well. It all starts from home with me. To help you understand, it’s like wearing a gorgeous couture dress by a fashion label you adore. When looking good, you feel confident, secure and beautiful. I feel this to be true when it comes to your home. The person I want to be can stem from living is such a brilliantly styled surrounding. Having this I know will spill over into growing both my personal and professional lives.
ABOVE ALL ELSE:
Never give up. It’s hard to break someone that takes the hits and won’t stay down.
