If there’s one thing that can be said about millennials when it comes to interior design it’s that they’re comfortable with purchasing big pieces for their home online, and they want it right away. Christiane Lemieux, who founded the mega-successful home brand Dwell Studio, has now begun a new furniture company, the Inside. She must have a knack for understanding trends, with her finger on the pulse of consumers, because she seems to get what we want.

The Inside uses advancements in printing and manufacturing technology to bring customizable, fashion-forward items of furniture to your doorstep in four weeks or less. That’s about half what it is at other home decor stores. And the Inside’s wares ( from benches and chairs to bedframes and screens) are affordable. If that wasn’t reason enough to peak your interest, Christiane has also collaborated with talented designers (Clare Vivier, the Everygirl) to create unique collections with original prints. We had a few more questions for her about her relaunch of the site and the brand in general.

What prompted you to start the Inside? What’s the concept behind it?

I want to create an ecosystem for design that speaks to everyone with great collaborative partners, a big cross-section of styles and really robust inspiration. I also wanted to bring my years of sourcing and manufacturing experience to benefit our customers in finding the best prices possible.  Home is a really personal thing and we want to give customers all the tools they want to create the space of their dreams.

Is there something new or innovative that you are offering with this new endeavor?

We are offering customization, of the minute trend, a broad selection of styles and great prices. This is enabled by new technologies. We are so excited to use these efficiencies to pass the style and savings to our customers.

The Inside has a new look, tell us about the relaunch?

This is really the beginning. We put out a rookie site to talk to customers and gather data while we spent the time building the real site. We learned so much along the way and also folded that into the new site.

The collaborations are fantastic! What made you select your collaborative partners like Clare Vivier?

We love Clare’s style. We really admire people that have a unique point of view! We have so many great collabs coming up across a huge spectrum of styles and influences. Stay tuned!

How about some of your own collections like “Banana Palm” and “Postmodern Moment”, where did you get inspiration for those?

We are always looking at both historical decor references – like Banana Palm and of the moment trend – like Melio – which is our nod to Memphis Milano and the irreverent 80s. Our technology allows us to bring trends to the market in a fraction of the time it used to.

Tell us about your new peel and stick wallpaper?

It’s such a great solution for those who rent their homes! I love wallpaper.  I think it just transforms a space. I always wanted to be able to have it and switch it up but the whole commitment of it is daunting. The new technology in the paper makes it easy to use and then switch – it’s a design junky and renters dream.

What can we look forward to in the coming months – any new collaborations or collections?

Think rugs, fashion bedding, and more collaborations!
