When we talk about using natural stone in a home, typically we discuss applications like a kitchen counter or an entry floor. But stone is also a great material for making small furniture and home décor pieces, which Polycor set out to prove with the launch of The Stone Boutique.
Polycor is no newcomer when it comes to celebrating stone (or gracing the pages of Rue.) They are the largest fully-integrated manufacturer and quarrier of natural stone in North America. Marie-Eve Gilbert, Marketing Coordinator at Polycor, says, “Our mission is to have people fall in love with natural stone by creating an accessible and affordable luxury product line, which features fresh and modern makers of furniture, home decor and housewares.” Conservation was also part of Polycor’s aim, according to Marie-Eve, “We wanted to use our quarried stone beyond kitchen countertops and architectural facades to use as as much of the stone as possible to create beautiful objects of all sizes and types. Stone has been around forever and has been used for many different applications over the years. Why not use stone’s infinite possibilities to create beautiful patterns for tableware, decor, furniture, jewelry and more?”
To create The Stone Boutique, Polycor sought out local start-ups and artisan workshops. Each product is made in North America with U.S. and Canadian quarried natural stone. Marie-Eve says, “Because our high-quality items are made with many different types of stone and by many different craftspeople, there is a story behind each product.” Many of the larger decoration and furniture products are made by Atelier Bussière, a local artisan in the Province of Quebec, Canada, while the small tableware items are produced by artisans in Virginia (near Polycor’s Alberene Soapstone Quarry) and in Georgia (near its Georgia Marble Quarry and Plant).
