All you have to do is hop on Instagram or Pinterest to see that earth tones are all the rage these days for interiors. WGSN, a trend authority in the industry, named it as one of the main things that will keep influencing design for the next couple of years to come. It’s not to say that bold color isn’t something that is still “in” but people aren’t incorporating it differently into their spaces than they used to. Many are instead opting for neutral tones for their sofas, walls, and rugs.
The quintessential designer of earthy tones is without a doubt Axel Vervoordt, whose design of the penthouse of the Greenwich hotel has us breathless. A homage to the primitive simplicity of monastic spaces, this modern hotel-appropriate version is made up of nothing but earth tones. Our favorite is the middle brown color he uses, which we’re calling oak. Partially because it reminds us of fall leaves, aged whiskey, or a waxed farmhouse table, but also because it’s a color that’s so versatile. This tone is perfect for your home.
